The All Progressives Congress (APC) has disqualified popular Nollywood actor, Kenneth Okonkwo from contesting for Enugu governorship election in 2019 following his inability to purchase the nomination and expression of interest forms.

2019: Wike Threatens PDP, Presidential Aspirants Over Convention Venue

The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has declared that there will be consequences if the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) succumbs to pressures from planted PDP presidential aspirants to move the party’s National Convention away from Port Harcourt.

He further declared that the state will not support any desperate PDP presidential aspirant who is sabotaging the economy of the state by fighting the hosting of the party’s presidential primary in Port Harcourt.

Mr Wike warned that Rivers People will teach the party a bitter lesson if it allows planted desperate presidential aspirants to scuttle the hosting of the presidential primary in Port Harcourt as agreed by all leaders of the party.

Speaking during a consultative visit by the Gombe State Governor and PDP presidential aspirant, Ibrahim Dankwambo, at the Government House Port Harcourt on Wednesday, Mr Wike said at the PDP’s national meeting, no presidential aspirant opposed Port Harcourt as a venue.

He said any presidential aspirant fighting Rivers State should forget about the support of the state, during and after the National Convention.

He said: [b]“Let me warn the party, if you dare, Rivers State will teach the party a lesson. Those days have passed when they took Rivers State for granted. Nobody can use and dump Rivers State.

“No presidential aspirant can use and dump Rivers State. We never lobbied for it, we never asked for it, but it will boost the economy of the state. People will make money.

“Those who are against Rivers people from making money to improve their businesses, will not get our support.”

The governor said that whether the National Convention holds in Jigawa or Adamawa, the winner preferred by the delegates will emerge.

“I don’t know why anyone who wants to be president, will be afraid of a venue. Then you are not prepared for the election.



“Nobody should dare Rivers State any longer. Enough is enough. PDP should know that we are not a punching bag. We are not a people you can use and push. We are not harlots. Whenever you want, you come. When you finish, you push us aside.

“We will retaliate at the appropriate time. When you go, tell your colleagues, the presidential aspirants. We were not interested, but having given it to us, you cannot insult us,”[/b] Governor Wike said.

The governor pointed out that there are persons who are not presidential materials, but have bought forms simply because the presidency is zoned to the North.

He wondered why a presidential aspirant would declare that he is uncomfortable with Port Harcourt as a venue, but would love Rivers oil.

He said: “You come here to deceive us about restructuring. Just that Rivers State is a venue, you fight it. Then, when you are there, what will happen? You think we are fools where you preach restructuring, then when you get the position, you abandon restructuring.”

Governor Wike said that at the appropriate time, he will reveal the names of presidential aspirants working with the APC-led federal government to scuttle the presidential primary.

He added that no presidential aspirant will use a few members of the Board of Trustees of PDP to scuttle the decision of the party to host the presidential primary in Port Harcourt.

The governor described Governor Dankwambo as eminently qualified to contest the position of President. He said Mr Dankwambo will be considered when Rivers delegates meet to decide on who to support.

Earlier, Mr Dankwambo called on Rivers PDP delegates to support his aspiration as he has the capacity to set the country on the path of growth.

He said that the crisis of development being suffered by the country is a result of the leadership vacuum at the Federal Level .



While saying that he has the training, exposure and experience to lead the country in the right direction, Mr Dankwambo urged Nigerians not to make the error of 2015 when they chose promises ahead of performance.

The presidential aspirant said that he will support whoever emerges as presidential candidate, should it turn out that party delegates vote in a different direction.

Buhari And Donald Trump Yet To Meet At UN After ‘Lifeless Comment’. Photos

There are speculations that president Muhammadu Buhari and Donald Trump avoided to greet each other at the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday where they both gave speeches over the latter's controversial statement.

It was reported that United States president Donald Trump referred to  Muhammadu Buhari as “lifeless” shortly after a meeting between the two leaders on April 30.

Buhari, the first sub-Saharan Africa president to meet Trump since he was sworn in January 2017 as the 45th American president, was in the US for bilateral talks on Trump’s invitation.

That meeting ended with Trump saying he never wanted to meet someone as lifeless as Buhari again, Financial Times reported citing three persons familiar with the matter.

Yesterday,  Amina Mohammed, the deputy secretary-general of the United Nations (UN), greeted both presidents separately at the United Nations General Assembly, sparking speculations that they might have avoided each other over the tension the comment generated.

Donald Trump delivered a speech to the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday in which he touted his Administration’s accomplishments, spoke about the importance of American sovereignty and patriotism, and criticized “the ideology of globalism,” among many other things.

President Buhari also delivered a speech as he advocated the reconstitution and expansion of the membership of the Security Council of the United Nations which currently has 15 member states with only five world powers as its permanent members.

In Liberia, ex-central bank governor Milton Weeks is under investigation for the $104 million that vanished from state coffers.

Increased Minimum Wage Is Not The Solution To Nigeria's Problems

I think NLC is making a wrong choice by asking for increase in workers minimum wage.

The truth is that: with the increase in minimum wage, every other sector of the economy would adjust to balance the increment.

The fuel price will increase
The cost of transportation will increase
The price of food stuff... Inflation...
Virtually everything.

So what will NLC achieve by this demand. They will only take the country one step forward, and two steps backward.

Instead of asking for the increment, they should have sought to stabilize the economy so that with the little money a worker receives, he will be able to achieve more with it.

They should seek to put an end to corruption in government. Reduce the money being squandered at the national assembly, make the governors more accountable. Stabilize the price of petrol by making sure our refineries are working. And many more.

The proposed strike will do the country no good, even if it achieves its demands.

Rising Oil Price: CBN Urges FG To Save To Avert Another Recession

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Tuesday warned of a looming fall into another recession if efforts are not being made to boost the economy.

This warning was given at the end of the two-day Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting held in Abuja.

Addressing reporters yesterday, CBN Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele, noted that during the meeting, the committee identified rising inflation and pressure on external reserves created by capital flow reversal as the current challenges to growth.

According to him, inflationary pressures have started rebuilding and capital flow reversals have intensified as shown by the bearish trend in the equities market even though the exchange rate remains very stable.

Mr Emefiele told newsmen that at the July meeting of the MPC, members had lauded the modest stability achieved in key indicators, including inflation, exchange rate and external reserves, buoyed by a robust level of external reserves with inflation trending downwards for the 18th consecutive month.

However, he emphasised that the gains recorded as at the last time the committee met before yesterday appear to be under threat of reversal, following new data which provides evidence of weakening fundamentals.

He said available data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed that real GDP growth declined by 45 basis points as the economy grew by 1.50 percent in the second quarter of 2018, down from 1.95 percent in the preceding quarter, but higher than 0.72 percent in the corresponding quarter of 2017.

“The committee was concerned that the exit from recession may be under threat as the economy slowed to 1.95 and 1.50 percent in Q1 and Q2 2018, respectively,” Mr Emefiele said during the briefing.

He said the committee attributed the slowdown in economy to drop in the oil sector, with strong linkages to employment and growth in other key sectors of the economy.

According to him, in order to avoid another recession, federal government must take advantage of the current rising oil prices to rebuild fiscal buffers, strengthen government finances in the medium term and reverse the current trend of decline in output growth.

“The MPC also called on the fiscal authorities to intensify the implementation of the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) to stimulate economic activity, bridge the output gap and create employment,” he said.

The CBN chief further disclosed that the committee noted that disruptions to the food supply chain in major food producing states due to the combined effects of poor infrastructure, flooding and the on-going security challenges resulted in a rise in food prices, contributing to the uptick in headline inflation.

However, he said the committee expressed optimism that as harvests progress in the coming months, pressure on food prices would gradually recede, while growth enhancing measures would over the medium term have some moderating impact on food prices.

He said the MPC was of the view that even though growth remained weak, the effective implementation of the 2018 capital budget and policies that would encourage credit delivery to the real sector of the economy would boost aggregate demand, stimulate economic activity and reduce unemployment in the country.

Business Post recalled that in the second quarter of 2016, Nigeria slipped into recession and only exited in the second quarter of 2017.

Some weeks ago, the Statistician General of the federation, Mr Yemi Kale, disclosed that the Nigerian economy was presently in a recovery stage.

IPOB Invited To UN Finally Speaks On Their Meeting With World Leaders

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Friday finally give a hint of it recent visit to the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, saying the encounter would go a long way towards cementing diplomatic relationship with the international community.

The IPOB delegation was led by its deputy leader, Mazi Uche Mefor on September 14, the same day the pro Biafra group remembered the victims of the invasion of the home of IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kany at Isiama- Afaraukwu, Umuahia in Abia State.

Although, the group said it was not at liberty to divulge every detail of what transpired during the encounter, stated that the world had officially been placed on notice that IPOB, as a movement, was determined to carve a separate existence for the people of Biafra, comprising South East/South South, away from Nigeria.

A statement by the IPOB media and publicity secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful, said it was the first time in the post war history of Biafra that the leadership of any group, movement or people met with the United Nations face to face to discuss the issue of Biafra.

The statement read: “It was a historic encounter that will go a long way in cementing the diplomatic credentials of IPOB in the eyes of the international community.

“It was the very first time that United Nations had the opportunity to host Biafrans to a meeting and it is only appropriate that we appreciate all those working tirelessly with our diplomatic team based in London to accomplish this feat.

“We commend the Directorate of State of the Indigenous People of Biafra (DOS-IPOB) under the leadership of Mazi Chika Edoziem, who accompanied our deputy leader to the historical meeting.

“The historic encounter with United Nations officials in Geneva has opened up avenues and opportunities for further engagement between IPOB and relevant UN agencies on the burning issues of human rights violations by the Buhari regime and enforcement of IPOB’s universal right to self determination.

“With this meeting satisfactorily concluded, IPOB has gone where no other group of leaders before it dared go to. It will forever be recorded that for nearly 50 years and for the very first time in the history of Biafra, an interface was facilitated between representatives of the people of Biafra IPOB and the United Nations.”

The organization, however, regretted that the Kanu family was denied representation at the meeting because the Swiss Embassy denied the family entry visa to Switzerland.

Cahill :I May Quit Chelsea In January

Ex-bayelsa Security Adviser Raped Me Inside Office, Cashier Tells Court

he victim in the alleged rape trial of Chief Perekeme Kpodo, a former Security Adviser to former Bayelsa State Governor, Timipre Sylva, has testified before a Bayelsa High Court, giving vivid accounts of how she was raped by her boss (Kpodo).

The 26-year-old lady (name withheld) on Friday testified along with her uncle and a medical doctor who examined her on June 9, 2018, a day after she was allegedly abused sexually.

In her testimony at the court, the victim said that she was invited by the accused (her boss) to his office in the hotel about 8pm on the fateful day where he locked the doors and forcefully overpowered her and raped her.

She said Kpodo had threatened her that he was the brain behind the Famou Tangbe (a dreadful security outfit’ under ex-governor Sylva and advised her to yield to his demand in her own interest.

The victim, who narrated her experience before the court, broke down in tears and subsequently forced the judge to suspend the hearing twice to enable her to regain composure.

She said that the accused person had been making indecent sexual approaches to her before the incident.

The victim stated, “I was employed as a cashier by Kpodo, the owner of the hotel. Whenever I went to submit cash to him, he usually touched me. I did not like the way he used to touch me. So, I reported it to the employment agency that helped me secure the job, and they advised me to talk to him to stop it.

“I talked to him that it was a sin and that I did not like the way he used to touch me any time I went to his off. After my protest, he stopped for some time. But after some time, he started again. That fateful day, he locked up the door and raped me. I shouted and also pleaded and he said he would not leave me until he was satisfied with me.

“So, when he finished, he asked me to clean myself and to bring his food. He did not use a condom and I was injured. He removed my pair of trousers and I kept struggling with him until he finished.

“I called my uncle who is a policeman and he came and took me home. The next day, we went to report to the incident to the Police and they gave me a medical report form which I took to a hospital.

“The hospital conducted tests, including HIV test on me and thereafter prescribed some drugs which I have been taking.”

Recall that Kpodo was on July 31, 2018, arraigned for alleged rape at State High Court 7 in Yenagoa.

Kpodo was charged with two counts of unlawful detention and rape of the victim, a 26-year-old female cashier at the hotel owned and run by the accused person.

At the resumed trial of the case, the trial judge, Justice E. Eradiri, listened to the testimony of a medical practitioner, Dr. Ikenna Nwanna, who examined the victim after she was allegedly raped.

Nwanna, a medical practitioner from the Diete Koko Memorial Hospital, Opolo, Yenagoa, told the court that the patient complained of pains in her pubic area and walked with difficulty when she came to the clinic on June 9, 2018.

The doctor said, “The patient complained that she was raped by her boss and I examined her in the presence of a female nurse. There were bruises in her vulva and due to the pains she did not allow me to touch her vaginal area.

“There were also whitish discharge which I suspect to be semen, although I did not conduct any further tests, the observations tallied with her complaint of violent sexual assault.”
